Rockfin with a contract for the nuclear sector

The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is under construction in Mersin province in southern Turkey. The project of the power plant under construction envisages the commissioning of four power units with reactors of 1200 megawatts each. The auxiliary systems of steam turbines and turbogenerators in Akkuyu will be designed and manufactured in Poland by the Polish engineering company Rockfin. The first unit of the power plant with Rockfin machinery will be commissioned in 2023. The value of the contract is about PLN 120 million net.

– Akkuyu is the seventh contract of Rockfin for the supply of equipment for the nuclear sector, placing it in the role of a key supplier of this type of solutions in the world. Earlier, in 2021, Rockfin systems will be delivered to the Hinkley Point power plant in the UK. Over the years, Rockfin has supplied hundreds of auxiliary systems to power plants around the world, including some of the world’s largest and most important infrastructure projects, such as the Flamaville nuclear power plant and the Guinness Book of World Records’ most efficient power plant in the world, Bouchain. Rockfin solutions have also been delivered to the Laguna Verde power plant in Mexico, Borselle in the Netherlands and to the Swedish Forsmark and Ringhals power plants – says Bartosz Krzemiński, President of Rockfin.

The growing demand for energy and the company’s activity in a niche with a high entry barrier for global competitors make Rockfin currently the leading engineering company in the energy sector.

Rockfin was founded in 1991 and currently employs 600 people, including more than 200 engineers. The company specializes in designing, manufacturing, testing and servicing oil, gas and water systems in the energy, industrial and oil and gas sectors.

Since 2013, when the Polish private equity fund Tar Heel Capital invested in Rockfin, acquiring a majority stake, the company has significantly increased the scale of its operations. The company has consistently pursued its growth strategy thanks to, among other things, its proprietary engineering, diversified product portfolio and global scale of operations.

Global reach

Rockfin is a global company with its head office and a production plant with a total area of 10 000 m2 located near Gdańsk in Małków, and production plants in Gorlice and Bydgoszcz. The company also has branches in Switzerland and USA, and a technical and commercial office in Italy.

Rockfin equipment operates in more than 100 countries, e.g. in nuclear, gas, coal, water power plants, oil rigs, renewable energy sources or FPSO ships (floating production, storage and loading points). In the latter category, the company has provided, among other things, lubrication systems for FLNG’s Prelude floating refinery – the world’s first ship built to extract, liquefy and transport gas. The Prelude is also the largest ship ever built at sea (488 meters long, 74 meters wide and is 105 meters tall).
