Bouchain CCGT Power Plant: Record Breaking Efficiency

The biggest Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant in France located in the Nord region. It is notable not only for its size but also for holding a Guinness World Record as the most efficient CCGT plant in the world.
The Bouchain CCGT power plant, located in the Nord region of France, is globally recognized for its unprecedented efficiency of 62.22%, setting a world record. Central to this achievement was Rockfin, a key provider of specialized auxiliary equipment that ensured the plant’s optimal performance and environmental sustainability.

Our Involvement

Rockfin played a pivotal role in the Bouchain project by delivering advanced auxiliary systems designed to support the plant’s turbines. The company provided the critical lubrication systems for the gas turbines, which were essential for ensuring their reliable and efficient operation. Rockfin's expertise in producing turbine lubrication and control systems helped in minimizing wear, maximizing operational efficiency, and contributing to the plant’s record-breaking performance.

Rockfin’s responsibilities included designing, manufacturing, assembling, and testing the entire lubrication system, which was a critical component of the plant’s operation. The system's reliability and precision were essential in enabling Bouchain’s turbines to operate at peak efficiency, contributing to the plant’s achievement of the world record in efficiency.

Technology Challenge

One of the main technological challenges faced by Rockfin was ensuring that the lubrication system could operate under the demanding conditions of a high-efficiency CCGT plant. With Bouchain’s turbines designed to ramp up to full power in under 30 minutes, the lubrication system needed to respond rapidly and provide stable performance under high loads. Furthermore, the system had to maintain high reliability across a wide range of operational conditions while complying with stringent environmental regulations.

"We've overcome these challenges by leveraging our extensive experience in power plant projects and our commitment to innovation. Our team utilized advanced design methodologies and testing procedures to ensure that our systems could meet the stringent demands of the Bouchain plant."

Partnerships

The success of the Bouchain CCGT project was the result of close collaboration between several key players in the energy industry, including EDF, General Electric (GE), and Rockfin. GE supplied the groundbreaking 9HA gas turbines, which were central to the plant's high efficiency, while Rockfin provided the auxiliary systems that ensured the turbines’ reliable performance. This partnership demonstrated how the integration of specialized expertise can lead to technological breakthroughs.

Rockfin’s long-standing relationship with major energy providers like EDF and GE enabled the company to understand the project’s unique requirements and deliver a tailored solution. By working closely with these partners from the design phase through to implementation, Rockfin ensured that its systems contributed to the plant’s overall success

Conclusion

Rockfin’s role in the Bouchain CCGT power plant exemplifies the company's expertise in delivering high-performance auxiliary systems for complex energy projects. Through innovation, technical precision, and strong partnerships, Rockfin contributed to the creation of the world’s most efficient power plant, a landmark achievement in both energy efficiency and sustainability. As energy systems evolve, Rockfin remains at the forefront, driving technological advances that meet the demands of the global energy transition.
